Investment Ready Trail Projects

Across the State

The Great Trails State Coalition collected information from communities about natural and paved trail projects that are ready for construction and design. Check them out below. The large number of projects that are ready for investment (shown as teal dots) demonstrate the unmet demand for trails from communities across the State and the lack of funding to make them a reality.

Explore the Map

Use the dark green Navigation Bar on the top right to explore the data. Using the filter icon you can view the projects by Districts or Counties (make sure to flip the on switch after selecting your filter in the drop box). You can also view the data by turning on and off layers in the “Layer List” icon like viewing the Great Trails State Plan, completed plans, legislative districts, etc. Click on an individual dot to see more details about the project.

There are 263 projects in 52 counties, representing an estimated $511 million of construction costs. NC DOT’s Great Trails State Plan identifies future projects in all 100 counties. Check them out below.
